About Me
Jennifer Underwood, Ph.D. (she/her/hers)
I am passionate about creating inclusive, trauma-informed, and research-based content that makes communities safer for everyone.
With over 20 years of experience in the adult learning field, I’ve worked with adults in professional development, academic, and volunteer settings. I spent the majority of those years in the gender-based violence prevention field, approaching the topic from a variety of angles and contexts. I also have experience in grant writing, research, and learning assessment. The common thread that runs through all of my work is helping people understand themselves and harness their power to make a difference in their world.
Today, I create inclusive and supportive content that helps adults explore new information, make sense of what they are learning, and integrate new knowledge. I do this work from a trauma-informed and intersectional lens. We all learn best when when we can incorporate our identities and experiences in the process, so I design content that helps people do that. I also incorporate WCAG AA standards into my work because learning experiences can’t be inclusive if they aren’t accessible.
While education helps create individual change, true culture change also needs community level interventions. I offer grant-writing and program development services to nonprofit organizations to help them increase their community impact.
I earned my master's degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my Ph.D. in adult learning from Virginia Commonwealth University. When I’m not writing, you can find me reading at a coffee shop or sewing in my craft room.
